Francis Kai John Dechert – Born on October 21, 1961 in Scarborough, Ontario and died at age 51 on November 25, 2012 in Surrey, BC. After a nine month struggle with lung cancer he succumbed, but he never surrendered. Francis grew up and lived in Ontario for much of his life, moving to Vancouver six years ago and loving his Kitsilano home. He was in his teens when personal computers became available and his whole professional life was spent doing computer programming, computer automated design and information technology management and consultation. But his most cherished times were hiking in the mountains on BC’s North Shore and Whistler area, and he loved the physical and intellectual challenges of his favorite recreation of geocaching. Francis had a sharp wit and well-informed opinions and his attention to detail made him a valuable planner. He was a loyal friend and loved his family fiercely. He is survived by his loving mother Karen Dechert, brothers John (Buzz) and Robert, sisters Victoria and Christine, nephews Robert, Michael, Jon, Kai and David, niece Maggie and his valued extended family in Denmark. Predeceased by his beloved father, John Earnest Nelson Dechert.
