1950 - 51 - Commencement Operetta - Gilbert and Sullivan, "Trial by Jury"
(November)
Here is the prettier part of the cast of "Trial by Jury." The Gilbert and Sullivan operetta was performed two evenings at the annual High School Commencement exercises held in November at the Music Hall. The operetta was under the capable direction of Mr. John Ricciardelli who is here surrounded by a 'bevy of beauties' (sic) who make up the femimine portion of the bridal party.
Right to left, behind; Carolyn Bunker, Mary Jane Gould
In Front: Norene Drummond, Skenna Drummond, Effie Mustard. At the piano, Mr. Ricciardelli, the director.
1954 - 55 - Commencement Operetta - Gilbert and Sullivan, "Pirates of Penzance"
(November)
One of the features at this year's Commencement exercises was the presentation of the "Pirates of Penzance," by Gilbert & Sullivan. Frederic, the Pirate apprentice, was most capably portrayed by Robert Morrison. Mabel, was shared by Marie Lockie and June Morgan who sang the role on alternate nights. Both were in fine voice and looked becomingly demure. Major General Stanley himself was admirely played by Larry Chase who seemed to possess a fine flair for comedy. Kay Leadlay was an excellent Ruth and she gave a flawless performance. The terrible Pirate King was a swashbuckling Keith Davidson while his lieutenant Samuel was Ron Shier. Betty Noble sang the role of Kate well. Keith Profit brought out the best features of the Sergeant of Police.Space does not allowcomment on the various members of the large chorus, suffice it to say that they were uniformly good.
Robert Mundinger and Mr. Whelan played the accompaniment and Bob played a selection during the intermission.
Special thanks is due Mrs. Hewitt and the Special Commercial Class who prepared the work sheets; to Mr. Mattock and his assistants who built the scenery; to Miss Carnwith for her help in the costume department.
